Joe James Maw Profile Image
Joseph James Maw

Having studied maritime & navigation studies from a young age and gaining experience in various sailing activities, Joe abandoned his nautical activities, leaving school at the age of 16 to pursue his interests in art and graphics & attending various London art & design colleges, by the age of 18 Joe had qualifications in graphic, typographic and photography design.

Keeping in with his family connections to the maritime sector, Joe was later bound as a Waterman's apprentice to “The Company Of Watermen & Lightermen” in the City of London and pursued his new found career as deck crew and waterman on the River Thames, eventually qualifying as a commercial high speed ferry captain, and now accredited by the Maritime Coast Guard Agency, he has gone on to manage, teach and examine apprentices himself.

With a keen interest in cityscape photography and anything maritime & aviation, Joe purchased his first professional drone in late 2019 after previously experimenting with several smaller UAVs, flying for his own leisure and photography purposes.

Experienced in remote flying and having explored the rapidly growing market for remote aerial systems, Joe made enquiries into qualifications and classifications needed for professional UAV operations and went on to study and qualify as a commercial remote pilot and gained permissions for Commercial Drone Operations from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Expanding his fleet of aircraft and making use of the photography, cinematography & graphic design experience, "London Drone Works" was born!
